CULTURAL COMPETITIONS -2018-19 RULES OF JUDGEMENT

1. Declamation: (English and Malayalam)

2. Recitation (English, Hindi and Malayalam)

Time Limit- 3 to 5 minutes
Only poetry pieces will be allowed. The name of the poet and the book from which the passage is taken should be informed to the host school by the participating school for the purpose of announcement. The judgment will be based on :

3. Extempore Speech: (Malayalam and English)

Time Limit -3 to 5 minutes
A speaker should take care to select appropriate words for public speaking. The purpose of the extempore speech is not only to test the knowledge on a given topic, but also to test the ability to communicate in the presence of an audience. All contestants will speak on the same topic and will be given only 5 minutes to prepare. They are not allowed to seek any outside help. The speaker is allowed to make notes only on the given piece of paper with the topic written on it. The contestant is not allowed to read out the speech. There will be a warning bell after 4 minutes and the final bell at the end of the 5th minute.

4. Group Song (English, Malayalam)

There should be poise, clarity of voice and pitch difference. The song should be thematic but not devotional or filmy. Any one instrument other than the organ is permitted and can be played by one of the team members.

5. Light music: (Malayalam)

The participant should choose a meaningful Malayalam Song of about 5 minutes duration. The song should not be devotional, choral or from films . The use of a single instrument other than the organ by the participant is permitted.

6. Light Music (English)

The participant may choose a non- filmy Pop or Country song of 5 minutes duration which will be adjudged based on rhythm, composition, coordination and overall impression.

7. Bharathanatyam

The duration of dance should be limited to 10 minutes. Only recorded CDs are allowed. Boys can also participate but there will be no separate category.

The duration of dance should not be more than 10 minutes. Only recorded CDs are allowed.

9. Folk Dance (Solo)

The costume and appearance must be apt for the dance. Avoiding expensive costume is desirable. The originality or ‘Nadodi Thanima’ is to be preserved. The duration should not be more than 10 mts. Only recorded CDs are allowed. Boys can also participate but there is no separate category

Judging of this event will be based on

10. Folk Dance (Group)

The team must perform a group dance. Only recorded CDs are allowed. No cinematic dance is permitted. Maximum number of participants should remain on the stage throughout.
